Christmas 2008

It's hard to believe Christmas is over.  We had a very nice holiday shared between the Watson and Volkman families.  Our holiday started out Christmas Eve when we attended mass at St. Nicholas church with the Schneller Family.  Then we headed over to my Aunt Linda and Uncle Chad's lovely home for Christmas Eve dinner.  We always look forward to Uncle Chad's clam chowder and Stacey's peanut butter balls.  This was the first year we did a Secret Santa gift exchange, which was a lot of fun! Everyone was really good about keeping their Secret Santa a secret.  Here are some pictures of Christmas Eve.
Christmas morning we woke up and headed over to my parents house to open gifts. The whole crew came over for breakfast, and we each shared what Santa brought us the night before. Here are the pictures of Christmas morning.
After a quick nap, we headed up to Ben's parents house to celebrate Christmas with them.  We had a nice time exchanging gifts and hearing about their trip to Arizona and how their Christmas celebration went with Ben's sister and her family.
Ben has had some time off from work, so it has been nice to just hang out and relax.  We only have about 6 more short weeks of freedom until our little girl arrives, so we are taking full advantage of this time together.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday, and cheers to 2009!

Volkman's Christmas in the Square Day!

It was so nice to wake up today, Monday @ 8 am and think about all the people that were on their way to work...while I was just waking up thinking about our trip up to San Francisco for our first annual, Volkman's Christmas in the Square Day (I think I should take a minute and thank Cisco for having a 4 day mandatory holiday ;) )

We started off at my sister Brie's store on Sacramento St, called Right Start.  It was a very cute baby store and great to see my sister in action... the store fits her perfectly!  I was also very confident that ALL the baby shopping is finally done, after hearing Brie say to Heather, "do you guys have this,"  and "you should really get this item".....and have Heather reply to 99% of those remarks with, "Yes, we have this" and "Yep, got that."  I think I can finally stitch up the hole in my wallet!!!!

Then it was off to Union Square in downtown.  I had my first slice of Blondie's Pizza...not too bad if I don't say so myself.  Then off to Nordstroms and picked up a pair of jeans that Nana Volkman (I mean Santa) is stickin' under the tree this year...50% off too!!  Then we just went to the square to people watch, listen to the Christmas music, check out the ice skating, and just enjoy the Volkman Christmas in the Square day...Happy Holidays Everyone!!

Embarrassing Husband Moment

Today at Kaiser Ben and I attended a class called 'Newborn Care'.  Basically the class was an overview on what we can expect to happen at the hospital after the baby is born, and basic information to care for a newborn, such as bathing, diapering, feeding, etc.  The instructor is going through the slides on an overhead projector and it comes to a slide that talks about the Newborn Club.  This is where we will be going 24-48 hours after we are discharged from the hospital.  At this appointment they will check to make sure the baby is eating well, hasn't lost too much weight, check for jaundice, and look at the overall health of the baby.  At the bottom of the slide it said "have diapers and wipes, etc...so just bring your baby and yourself".  Once the instructor went over all the newborn club information, she asked the group what we thought the most popular reason people would go back to the newborn club after that initial visit.  To my embarrassment Ben shouts out, "DIAPERS!".  I immediately knew what he was thinking, but the instructor as well as the other 30 or so people in the class thought he meant people would go back to get help with changing the baby's diapers.  Anyone who knows Ben well enough would know that he meant that people went back for the free diapers, wipes, etc. Apparently no one got his joke, and the answer was breastfeeding. (See first blog entry, regarding what keeps Ben up at night...money.)

My dad tends to say embarrassing things too, and I asked my mom if she got embarrassed by him, and her response was "all the time".  Is this something that all dads do?

I'm Pregnant...Now What!?!?!

Thirty one weeks ago when the pregnancy test came back positive, we felt truly blessed.  We have been planning for the arrival of our baby girl and we have so many hopes and dreams for her future.  All in all, the pregnancy has been a breeze.  The little one has definitely been nice to her mommy...no morning sickness, cravings, or other discomforts (at least not yet).  Ben, on the other hand, has been up many sleepless nights thinking about boyfriends, a girl's desire to shop, weddings, college, boyfriends, retirement, money, did I say boyfriends?

Here are pictures of my growing belly over the last 31 weeks!

Welcome World to the Volkman's Blog!!!

We have finally caught up with technology, and our new baby girl (scheduled to make her initial debut in February 2009) is the inspiration behind this blog, so that all of our friends and family can keep up to date with the Volkman's.  I know, I know, you're probably thinking, "why in the world would I want to keep up with the Volkman's...they're so boring" but we assure you that our lives are about to be anything BUT boring come February! Love, Heather and Ben
